Shivling Abhishek is one of the most powerful and
auspicious rituals in Sanatan Dharma. Performing
Abhishek (ritual bathing) of the Shivling at home
brings blessings of Lord Shiva — health, prosperity,
peace, and removal of all obstacles.
You do not need a temple to connect with Mahadev.
With the right items and pure intention, your home
becomes a sacred space.
## What is Shivling Abhishek?
Abhishek means "sacred bath." In this ritual, sacred
liquids and offerings are poured over the Shivling
while Shiva mantras are chanted. It is believed that
every drop of Abhishek washes away sins and fulfils
divine wishes.
## Best Days to Perform Shivling Abhishek
- **Monday** — Most auspicious day for Lord Shiva
- **Shravan month** — Entire month is sacred for Shiva
- **Mahashivratri** — The most powerful night of the year
- **Pradosh Vrat** — 13th day of each lunar fortnight
- **Amavasya** — New moon night
You can also perform Abhishek daily for maximum blessings.
## What You Need for Shivling Abhishek
Here is the complete list of items required:
**Sacred Liquids (Panchamrit):**
- Raw milk (Gau Dugdh) — purifies and brings peace
- Honey (Madhu) — brings sweetness and prosperity
- Curd (Dahi) — removes obstacles
- Ghee — brings wisdom and good health
- Sugar/Mishri — brings happiness
**Other Offerings:**
- Gangajal or clean water
- Belpatra (Bilva leaves) — most beloved by Lord Shiva
- White flowers — especially Dhatura and Kaner
- Sandalwood paste (Chandan)
- Vibhuti (sacred ash)
- Incense sticks (Agarbatti)
- Dhoop / Diya (lamp)
**From Your Pooja Kit:**
All of the above items are included in our

need to collect them separately.
## Step by Step Shivling Abhishek Process
**Step 1 — Purify Yourself**
Wake up early, take a bath, and wear clean white
or light-coloured clothes. Face North or East
while performing the puja.
**Step 2 — Set Up Your Puja Space**
Place the Shivling on a clean wooden platform or
puja thali. Keep a vessel below to collect the
Abhishek liquid (this is called "Nirmalya").
**Step 3 — Light the Diya**
Light a ghee diya and incense sticks. Offer a
prayer to Lord Ganesha first to remove obstacles.
**Step 4 — Begin the Abhishek**
Pour each liquid slowly over the Shivling one
by one while chanting:
"Om Namah Shivaya"
Pour in this order:
1. Water / Gangajal
2. Raw milk
3. Curd
4. Honey
5. Ghee
6. Sugar water
7. Gangajal again (to clean)
**Step 5 — Offer Belpatra**
After the liquid Abhishek, gently place 3
Belpatra leaves on top of the Shivling.
Belpatra is considered the most sacred
offering to Lord Shiva.
**Step 6 — Apply Chandan and Vibhuti**
Apply sandalwood paste and vibhuti on
the Shivling.
**Step 7 — Offer Flowers and Dhoop**
Offer white flowers and light dhoop/camphor.
**Step 8 — Chant Shiva Mantras**
Chant any of these powerful mantras:
- "Om Namah Shivaya" — 108 times
- Mahamrityunjaya Mantra — 11 or 108 times
- Shiv Chalisa — once
**Step 9 — Aarti**
Perform Shiva aarti with a ghee lamp in
clockwise circular motion.
**Step 10 — Prasad**
Distribute prasad (milk, mishri, or fruit)
to family members.
